Ludhiana, January 25, 2018: Two persons were taken into custody even as the screening of Padmavat in Ludhiana on the day of its pan India release evoked an enthusiastic public response.
Two self-styled low rung community leaders identified as Mukesh Khurana and Parminder Bhatti were allegedly trying to create disturbance. Both were booked under section 107 and 151 of the CrPC in the areas under jurisdiction of the police station Jamalpur and Division No 7 of the city.
“We will ensure adequate security at cinema halls as long as the movie is screened,” said RN Dhoke, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana.
The preventive action against both was prevented due to an alert police network in run up to the release of the movie. “We have laid out comprehensive plan to ensure screening of the movie without any disturbance,” added the CP.
Meanwhile, several leaders of different communities reacted positively after watching the movie on the opening day. They made public appeals to watch the movie as it did not contain any objectionable content which could hurt sentiments of the Hindu community particularly the Rajputs.
The movie is being screened on eight single screen cinema halls and multiplexes in the city. The police personnel have been deployed at all these places.
These leaders included Praveen Dang, Ashwini Katyal, Rajesh Sharma of Hindu-Sikh Jagriti Sena, Sundar Das Dhamija, chairman, Gobind Gau Dham, Chaudhary Yashpal of Valmiki Dharam Samaj, Yogesh Dhiman of Hindu Nayay Peeth, Malkeet Jhangar of Satguru Ravidas Dharam Samaj, Vatrun Mehta of Hindu Takht and Kishan Lal Sharma of Shiv Sena Hindustan.
