Fatehgarh Sahib, September 22, 2018: Congress performed excellently in Zila Parishad and Panchyat Samiti polls for the first time in Sirhind, Amloh and Chanarthal Kalan considered to be the stronghold of SAD(B) in the district. SAD(B) even failed to open account in Sirhind and also lost Chanarthal Kalan falling in Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency, where Congress candidates won all the seats with handsome margin. In Amloh constituency, where 74% highest polling was recorded, Congress won 16 seats out of 17 in Panchyat Samiti and all the Zila Parishad seats for the first time, whereas SAD(B) got only one. The worst performance of Congress was in Khamano Panchyat Samiti where party won only 8 seats and lost 6 to SAD(B) and one to SAD(A).
Congress candidates won 72 seats out of 87 seats of Zila Parishad and Panchyat Samities for which the elections were held, SAD(B) won 12 , AAP failed to open account, SAD(A) won one seats and Independent candidates won 2 seats. In Fatehgarh Sahib Constituency Congress won all the 4 seats of Zila Parishad unopposed and for Panchyat Samiti Sirhind Congress won 14 seats out of 15 and independent won one seat SAD(B) and AAP failed to open account. In Khera Panchyat Samiti Congress won 12 seats out of 15 and SAD(B) won 3 seats AAP failed to open account. Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA Fatehgarh Sahib termed the victory as of Capt. Amrinder Singh led Congress Govt. policies and of honesty.
In Bassi Pathana Assembly constituency for Panchyat Samiti Bassi Pathana Congress won 12 seats out of 15 and SAD(B) 2 and one independent for Zila Parishad Congress won all the seats. For Khamao Panchyat Samiti Congress won only 8 seats out of 15, whereas SAD(B) won 6 seat and SAD(A) managed to open account by winning Hawara Kalan seat. Gurpreet Singh GP MLA Bassi Pathana termed the victory of people and Capt. Amrinder Singh.
Meanwhile Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer and Alka Meena SSP said that no untoward incident was reported. They said SAD(B) protest only for the sake of protest without verifying facts. They thanked the people for completing election process peacefully.
