Amritsar, November 16, 2018: The Nirmal Singh Group today released the election manifesto for the general election of the Chief Khalsa Diwan, promising restoration of old glory of the Sikh’s representative body, managing the educational institutions. The free-education for the bright students, ensuring respectful status to women employees, transparency in administration and decentralization of powers were promised in the agenda of the polls by the group.
“We are convinced that Sikh Sangat with the blessings of the Gurus’ would support us. We promise to restore the erstwhile prestige of the institution and take reformatory measures to provide affordable education to every strata of the society”, said Nirmal Singh Thekedar, the candidate for the Presidentship of CKD elections.
Theose who were present during the release of the manifesto included Bhag Singh Ankhi, Rajmohinder Singh Majithia and Dhanraj Singh, Surinder Singh Rumalah Wala, Inderbir Singh Nirjar, Amarjit Singh Vikrant, Swinder Singh Kathunangal and Sukhdev Singh Mattewal. KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Narinder Khurana, Kiranjot Kaur, Narinder Singh Narula , Principal Jagdish Singh were also present as a major support for the group as the press conference turned out to be a show of strength.
They said they were overwhelmed t get the support of the general public in the elections.
They promised to maintain discipline in schools, sensitizing pupils to the prevailing evils in the society and encouraging them towards sports and the games. They said the NCC/ NSS training for children will be mandatory, students' bags will be lightened, unnecessary weight of books will be reduced, books will be made available at NCRT approved and at affordable prices and free education for students who secure 80 percent marks and '5000' students of poor families will be given helps. The promises of imparting education in the mother tongue, special attention to students from abroad for learning mother tongue were also made.
The candidates said they were contesting the polls on the agenda of transparent administration, affordable education to one and all, and work for the welfare of the society as per the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. ``According to the Gurus’ teachings, keeping the religion, ethical and human welfare is pivotal to the human livings. The education of the children is the primary duty of our institution which will perform with dedication and sincerity”, said Nirmal Singh.
While referring the historical background, he said that the generous donors of cities and villages, Gursikhs, with great effort and enterprise, established this institution. There is still much work to be done for the Panth and the society. There are nearly 60 thousand students and thousands of employees in the schools under CKS. But the Diwan witnessed a Tsunami recently and in the last 10-12 years, the institution was marked by controversies due to self interests of some people. We need to re-build this institution”, said he.
Ankhi said some persons in the last a few years made the CKD their Jagir and not only their own family members, but others were treated as slaves, which undermise the well being of the institutions. Rajmohinder Majitha said the educations had fallen in the last a few years and we need to take the body on track once again. ``Even the lady staff members used to fear to work but we will restore the honour and protection of the women working members”, said he.
They also promise to streamline the administration, remove irregularities and to ensure transparency in the organization's structure and take the help from professionals to take the education to the right track. “Unnecessary wasteful expenses will be checked and CKD’s Central office will be entitled only to get 10 percent of the school's income”, said they adding that Religious campaigns will be started as a separate wing to connect the children with the Sikh philosophy and teachings.
