Ferozepur February 21, 2019: Mahatma Gandhi State Institution of Public Administration (MGSIPA) Punjab in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defence, Govt. of India today organized one-day training program on "Drug abuse prevention for police functionaries of punjab" at police lines in this border district here today. About 50 officers of different ranks including Inspectors, SHOs, and Incharges Police Stations attended the program. Dr. Harish Sharma HOD (psychology) Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Kotkupra delivered lecture on the subject "signs and symptoms of substance abuse/cause and consequences of substances abuse", Dr. Rachna Mittal Incharge Drug abuse interacted with the participants on the theme "Treatment and Rehabilitation of drug addicts in prisons" while Mr. Bhupinder Singh District Attorney touched "legel aspects related to drug abuse in India".
Initiating the discussion Mr. Jarnail Singh Regional Project Director Mahatama Gandhi State Institution of Public Administration Bathinda said that drug abuse has got alarming dimensions in our society which needs to be curbed by adopting multi-pronged strategies at all levels. He said that the drugs abuse prevention program sponsored by Government of India has been conceptualized by Mr. KBS Sidhu, Special Chief Secretary Government of Punjab and Director General MGSIPA and Mrs. Jaspreet Talwar Secretary to Government of Punjab and Director of the Institute. He said that the institute has organized various awareness generation programs about the ill effects of this social evil for different segments of society including NGO's, Teachers and Police functionaries. He expressed gratitude to the district police officers for hosting the event and appealed the participants to contribute in checking drug trafficking in their area of jurisdiction effectively. Earlier, Mr. Mandeep Singh Coordinator MGSIPA Bathinda, while welcoming the participants detailed about the objectives of the program.
