Indore, MP, Apr 5: The parliamentary constituency Indore is witnessing hectic political activity in the wake of outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s eight-time local parliamentarian Sumitra Mahajan’s announcement through the press, earlier Friday; that she shall not contest the general election.
Following Mrs Mahajan’s statement, Indore-2 legislator Ramesh Mendola, Mayor Malini Gaur and other saffron camp leaders made a beeline for her residence.
In response to a media query as to what she would do if the BJP insisted that she re-enter the fray, Mrs Mahajan’s response implied that she would cross that bridge when she comes to it.
On why she is bowing out of the race, the seasoned politician said, “I feel that the party should not be in any state of doubt vis-a-vis my name. The delay in announcing an Indore candidate directly translates into lesser elbow room for campaigning.”
At a press conference on Thursday, the Congress said that it would declare its nominee an hour after the saffron camp. State Minister Jitu Patwari averred that the party had decided on the aspirant and a “son of Indore” is prepared to plunge into the arena. On the other side, Mrs Gaur’s name is doing the rounds for a while.(Agency)
