District level programme being organised on occasion of National Voters Day
Sangrur, 25 January 2020: It is primary duty of every citizen to vote. Hence it must be exercised enthusiastically and with due care. D.C.-cum-District Election Officer, Mr. Ghanshyam Thori epressed these views, addressing students at Akal Degree College for Women on the occasion of National Voters Day. Mr. Thori told that Election Commission of India was constituted on 25 January 1950 and on this day all the citizens (especially youth) are motivated to exercise their vote. He added that voters must vote without fear or favour so as to realize the spirit of democracy. He said that under the guidelines of EC, youngsters below 18 years of age are being made aware of Right to Vote, for they will chart the right course for society in future.
D.C. said that whole world lauds India for its peaceful conduct of elections. India is a democracy, which in essence implies a government for the people, of the people and by the people. He said that people of all religions, caste or creed, rich or poor, can vote without fear. On this occasion, he made everyone take an oath to vote that we the citizens of india promise to have faith in democracy and we'll try to preserve the sanctity of free and fair elections, and will vote without fear or enticement on basis of caste, language, religion or sect. He also distributed identity cards to some voters. Some of the divyang coordinators were awarded for their exemplary services during Lok Sabha polls. D.C. also honored District Social Security Officer Mr. Satish Kapoor for his contribution. During the occasion, S.D.M. Babandeep Singh Walia, Tehsildar elections Paramjeet kaur and other officials were also present.
