A historic day for Hoosier Sikhs
The Indiana Senate recognizes and acknowledged the significant contributions that American Sikhs have made across the United States and to the State of Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS, APRIL 20, 2017: It was a historic day for Hoosier Sikhs as it was for the first time in Indiana that a "Sikh Resolution" was introduced and passed on April 20, 2017 in the Indiana State Senate 200 West Washington St, Indianapolis, Indiana, on the occasion of Vaisakhi as "National Sikh Day." The resolution was introduced by Senator Aaron Freeman. The Senate recognizes and acknowledges the significant contributions that American Sikhs have made across the United States and to the State of Indiana on this great occasion of Vaisakhi as "National Sikh Day."
The spectators gallery was packed with Hoosier Sikhs who have come to witness the great occasion. Sikhs Political Action Committee (SikhsPAC) founder and chairman Gurinder Singh Khalsa opened the session with Sikh Prayer. Mr Guinder Singh Khalsa was introduced to the Senate by Lt GovernorSuzanne Crouch. Hoosier Sikhs extended special thanks to President Pro Tempore of Indiana State, Senator Arron Freeman and Jack Sandin for introducting the Sikh Resolution.
The Secretary of the Senate has been directed to transmit a copy of the resolution to SikhsPAC chairman Gurinder Singh Khalsa.
Indiana is home to about 3500-Sikh owned business, including gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, trucking and transportation businesses.
