Vancouver, BC, February 22, 2019 - The Professor Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation of Canada is pleased with the outcome of our organizations advocacy with the Gov’t of Punjab and leadership of Punjabi political parties regarding a Vidhan Sabha resolution on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
As part of our ongoing advocacy to delete the last vestiges of colonial oppression, and seek apologies from those who committed the atrocities, we had spent the last several years reaching out to member parties and leadership at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha (legislature). Being notified of this great news earlier this week, we were very pleased the Vidhan Sabha has adopted this resolution, and we laud all those who made this possible.
We also recognize the concerted efforts of Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema, Leader of the Opposition in the State of Punjab. His contributions to our advocacy are very much appreciated.
While we still have much work to do to peel back the impact of centuries of colonialism, and the effects thereof, the Vidhan Sabha resolution is a great way to begin.
Our foundation will continue to fight the remnants of oppression and colonial rule globally, as we recognize the rights of all humankind to self-determination, freedom, and equality, and stand firmly behind the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
