Giani Harpreet Singh announces stance on contesting elections; Here's what he said

Chandigarh, August 11, 2025 — Newly elected president of the rebel Shiromani Akali Dal faction, Giani Harpreet Singh, has announced that he will not contest any elections, asserting that his group’s goal is not to form a government.
Speaking shortly after assuming the post, Harpreet Singh launched a direct attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging that he faced pressure, threats, and even bribery attempts to prevent him from becoming president.
He further claimed that online campaigns were activated against his faction.
He warned that any attempts at character assassination against his colleagues would be met with a strong response. Reflecting on his past role, Singh said that had he not been removed as Jathedar, he would have continued serving at Takht Sahib.
He also referred to the December 2 Hukamnama, which he said was aimed at strengthening the Akali Dal.Calling his group the “real Akali Dal,” Harpreet Singh urged people to join their faction.
Outlining his three key agendas, he said the faction would work to secure control over the Gurdwara Management Committee, reclaim the party’s election symbol, and regain its official office.
