Over 2.8 Lakh intoxicating capsules seized; habitual offender booked
Ferozepur, February 1, 2026: In a significant blow to the illegal pharmaceutical trade, the Ferozepur City Police have busted a major drug racket, recovering a massive consignment of over 2.8 lakh intoxicating capsules and tablets. Acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted a raid at a residential property in Ferozepur City, discovering that a closed shop within the building was being used as an unauthorised warehouse for habit-forming drugs. The search led to the seizure of 2,80,630 units of Pregabalin and Tapentadol capsules, which were allegedly intended for illegal distribution across the region.
The police have registered a case against two individuals, identified as Kamal Kapoor and Rahit, residents of New Nanak Pura, Kamboj Nagar. While Rahit has been arrested, efforts are underway to apprehend Kamal Kapoor, who is currently evading the authorities. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 18(c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, for possessing and storing these regulated medicines without valid licenses or permits.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were operating this illegal storage in a residential area to avoid detection, posing a severe health risk to the public.
Senior police officials emphasised that such large-scale recoveries are crucial in the ongoing fight against drug abuse and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
