Punjab’s biggest premier league commenced today in Nangal with great enthusiasm and participation, marking a historic moment for grassroots sports in the region. The initiative, led by Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains, is being organized under the banner of the “Anandpur Sahib Premier League” in the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency. The grand opening ceremony in Nangal witnessed the presence of around 2500 players representing 161 teams, along with thousands of sports enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the spirit of cricket and community unity.
The event was graced by prominent personalities including Member of Parliament Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who is also associated with the Punjab Cricket Association. Both leaders formally inaugurated the league by initiating the first match through a ceremonial toss. Alongside the launch, an oath was administered to all participants and attendees to support anti-drug awareness, reinforcing the Punjab Government’s mission “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh,” which aims to steer youth away from substance abuse and towards constructive activities like sports.
Adding to the excitement, players from villages and urban wards proudly represented their local areas, showcasing talent and strengthening community pride. The organizers have ensured that all teams are equipped with jerseys, cricket kits, and attractive prizes, making the league both competitive and rewarding. Notably, the winners’ trophy has been specially crafted from the same place where Indian Premier League trophies are made, elevating the prestige of the tournament.
The opening ceremony turned into a festive celebration with vibrant cultural elements. Renowned personality Bunty Bains performed a song promoting sports and youth engagement, energizing the crowd. Influencers and local dignitaries interacted with players and spectators, further enhancing the enthusiasm. The atmosphere was electrifying as firecrackers lit up the sky, marking the grand beginning of the league.
This premier league stands as a unique and impactful initiative by Harjot Bains to channel the energy of Punjab’s youth into positive avenues. With playgrounds witnessing a surge of young participants, the event symbolizes a strong move towards a healthier and drug-free society. The Anandpur Sahib Premier League is expected to not only nurture sporting talent but also inspire unity, discipline, and a renewed passion for sports across the region.
