Chandigarh, May 5, 2025: The Punjab Assembly on Monday paid tribute to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack before beginning a special session focused on the state’s water crisis. MLAs across party lines observed silence in memory of those killed, with strong condemnation of the attack echoed in the House.
Earlier in the day, an all-party meeting was convened, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann received unanimous support from all political parties over the issue of river waters. The Assembly is expected to reject the recent decision by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), which has sparked widespread political concern in Punjab.

A censure motion is likely to be tabled against both the BBMB and the BJP-led central government, accusing them of attempting to override Punjab’s water rights.
The state government reiterated that Punjab has no surplus water to spare for Haryana, stressing that the state itself is struggling to meet its own agricultural and drinking water needs.
