Ludhiana (Punjab), May 5, 2025, 2025: Providing another big relief to people of this city, Local Government Department, Punjab, has officially transferred sixth major scheme namely `Sukhdev Enclave Scheme’ from the jurisdiction of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) to the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL).
An announcement to this effect was made by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora at a press conference at his office here this evening. LIT Chairman Tarsem Singh Bhinder was also present on the occasion.
Further elaborating, Arora said with this decision over 30 years old demand has been accepted. He added around 450 houses fall under `Sukhdev Enclave Scheme’.
He added earlier on last month, five schemes were transferred from the jurisdiction of LIT to MCL, thus providing relief to more than one lakh residents. The five schemes were as under: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar – 475 acres; Maharishi Balmiki Nagar – 256 acres; Rajguru Nagar – 129 acres; Bharat Nagar Extension – 30 acres; and Sant Isher Singh Nagar – 8.4. acres
Arora said benefits of this transfer include the consolidation of services under one roof of MCL. Now, residents of all the six colonies will no longer need to visit two separate offices —LIT and MCL—for availing services. Previously, services related to water supply, sewerage, house tax, and property tax were handled by the Municipal Corporation, while NOC (No Objection Certificate) and NDC (No Due Certificate) services were provided by LIT.
Adding, Arora said residents will now be able to approach their respective area councillors directly for the redressal of civic issues.
The MC will now be responsible for providing essential civic amenities such as sanitation, road maintenance, street lighting, water supply, and solid waste management in these localities.
However, the ongoing work of development by LIT in these schemes will continue till completion.
Further, Arora said development works, including of parks, sewerage and tiles worth about Rs.20 crore have been approved and now these development works will be undertaken by LIT. Of these works, development works worth about Rs.86 lakh will be done in Sant Isher Singh Nagar, Rs.8 crore in Rajguru Nagar and Rs.8.50 crore in SBS Nagar. He said the works are likely to be started within a week or so. Besides, two community centres one each at Model Town Extension (A-Block) and Kabir Society will also be constructed.
He said the approvals for these two community centres has already been given. Arora appreciated LIT chairman Tarsem Singh Bhinder for efficiently working for carrying out overall development in the localities falling under LIT. He added LIT has also got additional staff recently.
Replying to a question of the media, LIT chairman Tarsem Singh Bhinder told that the six schemes have been transferred from LIT to MCL only with efforts made by MP Arora otherwise this process was hanging in the air for last so many decades.
Bhinder said LIT had 33 schemes of which most of the schemes have already been transferred to MCL. A few schemes are left to be transferred to MCL. He categorically stated that quality is ensured while carrying out all the development works in the city.
He added third party inspection is also being done for ensuring quality check. He said they following instructions of MP Arora not to make any kind of compromise with the quality.
