Ludhiana: One more arrested in Multi-crore fake invoice/GST scam
Ludhiana, January 14, 2021: In an ongoing investigation in Multi-crore fake invoice/GST scam, the CGST department has made a third arrest.
Foreign liquor, expensive cigarettes, and pull of Canadian family visa have landed one Pawan Kumar in nothing but judicial custody.
The arrest of Sahil Jain, who was arrested by the anti-evasion wing of the CGST department on 11.11.2020, was followed by the arrest of another mastermind, Amandeep Singh Bhui.
Twenty-three firms have been unearthed so far which were being operated by them in conjunction. They issued fake invoices valued at Rs. 393.91 crores involving ITC amounting to Rs. 33.02 crores.
Disclosing this here, Ashutosh Baranwal, Principal Commissioner, CGST, Ludhiana Commisionerate told that on further probe in the case, the name of one Pawan Kumar s/o Joginder Pal emerged. He is known to Sahil Jain through the latter’s father Sh. Pardeep Kumar Jain. Pawan Kumar was promised a dream beyond his reach by Sahil Jain, who not only offered him expensive liquor and cigarettes but also flattered Pawan Kumar by ensuring his PR in Canada.
"Falling into this trap, Pawan Kumar opened and operated 5 firms with different names and styles and different PANs which fell among the conglomeration of Sahil JainAmandeep Bhui twenty-three firms. Thus, the firms of Pawan Kumar was also involved in the issuance of fake invoices and fraudulent availment of ITC," the official informed.
During the statement of Pawan Kumar which was recorded on 11.01.2021, admitted to having connived with and abetted Sahil Jain in the issuance of fake invoices and passing on of fake ITC through the 5 bogus firms created or operated by him and Sahil Jain. Pawan Kumar confessed that all these firms had indulged only in the issuance of fake invoices without any actual receipt/supply of goods.
