MC Elections: 8 candidates file nomination papers on 1st day in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, January 31, 2020: As many as eight candidates have filed their nomination papers on the first day of nominations for the municipal elections in the district. Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that all eight nominations were received for the Phillaur Municipal Council, where elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, 2021.
He said that the elections in 110 wards of six Municipal Councils and two Nagar Panchayats were going to be held as per the schedule issued by the state election commission.
The deputy commissioner said that on the first day for the nominations a total of eight candidates have filed their papers from Phillaur municipal council, whereas there has been no nomination registered in the other seven councils/Panchayats. He further added that eight municipal councils/Panchayats where elections are scheduled to be held include Adampur, Alawalpur, Kartarpur, Phillaur, Noormahal, Nakoder, Nagar Panchayat Lohian Khas, and Mehatpur.
He said that the last date of filing nomination papers was February 3, 2021, adding the scrutiny would take place by February 4th, and candidates can withdraw their papers by February 5, 2021.
The elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, and the result to be declared on February 17, 2021, as per the schedule, the Deputy Commissioner added.
He directed all the returning officers to ensure implementation of model code of conduct in their respective constituencies as no laxity in this task would be tolerated.
