Covid-19 positive prisoner flees from Isolation Ward in hospital
Ferozepur, April 7, 2021: The government taking all precautionary measures to eradicate the Coronavirus infection but one can well imagine the chances of further transmission of dangerous virus when a Covid-19 prisoner under police custody, fled away from Covid-Care-entre – CCC of Isolation Ward in Civil Hospital, Ferozepur.
Meanwhile Ferozepur police have registered a case against the accused Gursewak Singh who fled away from the Civil Hospital, under IPC section 224 (escapes or attempts to escape from any custody in which he is lawfully detained for any such offence) for committing a negligent act which likely to spread infection of disease endangering to life as well as under the provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act pertaining to penalizing a person for disobeying any regulation or order issued under this Act.
We will proceed against the accused legally on this charge also once he is traced. Perhaps, this is the first instance where a Covid-19 patient had aliped away from the designated Covid-19 Isolation Ward in the civil hospital, said the police official.
As per the information, the accused identified as Gursewak Singh was arrested at Zira in the case of March 2021 under Sections 454, 480, 411 and after getting a production warrant from SDM Zira, police remand was obtained from Faridkot Central Jail on April 1. The accused was tested for Corona and was ordered by the court to keep him on judicial remand for April 16 at Central Jail Muktsar. He was however kept in police custody and was tested positive on April 4. He was kept under police custody under the supervision of police staff at Isolation Ward in Civil Hospital from where on the night of 5-6 April 2021 at around 2 am, due to the negligence of security staff, fled away. The police are however on search operation by raiding at the suspected places and yet to be brought back.
