Mohali: Speeding sedan hits auto and scooter; auto driver killed

Mohali, April 10, 2021:
An auto driver was killed while a scooterist woman got injured today in a road mishap after a Honda City hit the auto and the Activa at traffic lights of Sector 70-71 here.
The deceased has been identified as Arjun Yadav (35). Arjun was driving his auto alone when the incident took place around 8.30 am on Saturday.
The injured woman has been identified as Aditi. Aditi was riding pillion with her husband, Abhimanyu Yadav, on their Activa. They were going towards Balongi when the Honda City, driven by Prithvi Thakur (18), a resident of Phase 1, hit their Activa after hitting the auto.
The investigation officer, ASI Charanjit Singh said, “The car driver, Prithivi was going to attend his tuition class in Mohali with his father on their white Honda City. When the sedan reached near Chawla chowk, it hit the auto. The car lost control after the collision and hit the Activa on the other side of the road after breaking the railing.”
Inspector Ashok Kumar, Station House Officer of Mataur police station said, “The auto driver was shifted to Civil Hospital in Phase 6 from where he was referred to GMCH, Sector 32. He succumbed to his head injuries there. The exact address and the family contacts of the deceased have not been found yet. His postmortem will be conducted on Sunday.”
He added, “The injured woman, Aditi, got fracture on her leg and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital of Sector 33 in Chandigarh. The case under Sections 279, 304-A, 337 and 427 of the IPC has been registered on the statement of Aditi’s husband, Abhimanyu. The car driver has been arrested.”
ASI Charanjit Singh said, “The accused has a driving license. A case of culpable homicide (Section 304 of the IPC) will be registered after recording the statement of the family members of the deceased. Further investigation is on.”
