Adopt rooftop water harvesting: PAU expert to farmers and public
Ludhiana, August 5, 2021:
Speaking on rainwater harvesting during PAU live programme on Thursday, Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, said urbanization has seen a rise during the last 10 years. “This has resulted in houses covering the land. Moreover, sufficient space is not available for spreading surface water in urban areas, where groundwater availability is inadequate and reduces rainwater infiltration,” he observed. Dr Aggarwal urged the citizens to adopt rooftop water harvesting in religious places, marriage palaces, educational institutions and industries. This technology's large-scale adoption can improve the groundwater resources, water quality, road conditions and reduce sewage load, he added. Farmers and general public can seek technical guidance in this regard by acquiring training at Skill Development Centre, PAU and Krishi Vigyan Kendras located in different districts of Punjab. They can also contact Dr Aggarwal at mobile number 98722-08744.
Informing about the monthly farm related practices, Dr Inderpreet Kaur Boparai, Assistant Entomologist, advised the farmers to read Changi Kheti and Progressive Farming (July issue) for technical know-how of farm operations to be followed in August.
Mr Deepak Bhatia, Sales Promotion Assistant, said the Communication Centre is promoting 198 publications, which are available for purchase at Gate No. 1, PAU, Ludhiana campus. The Package of Practices for Rabi Crops will be sold on the first of September, he informed the farmers.
