CIA Mohali recovers 52 cars by arresting 9 members of inter-state gang of thieves

SAS Nagar, August 18, 2021:
The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Mohali police arrested nine members of an inter-state gang of car snatchers and thieves. The police also recovered 52 cars after arresting all the accused.
Mohali SSP Satinder Singh informed that a police team led by Inspector Sukhbir Singh had initially arrested four accused – Ramjeet Singh alias Ram, resident of Vikas Puri in New Delhi, Chanpreet Singh alias Channi, resident of
Nangloi in New Delhi, Girish Bembi alias Garry and Maninder Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran. A case under Sections 379, 411, 420, 465, 467, 468, 473, 120-B of the IPC was registered against them on June 10, 2021 at the Balongi police station.
The police also claimed to have cracked another case under Sections 302, 34 of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act registered on December 19, 2021 at the Sohana police station by arresting Pargat Singh, resident of Urban Estate in Patiala, and one of his accomplices. They had snatched nine cars at gunpoint in many incidents.
During the investigation of this case, the police further recovered 22 stolen cars from Rajesh Kumar alias Raja, resident of Moga and Harjot Singh alias Jot, resident of
Amritsar after arresting them from Ludhiana and Mohali respectively. Later, two more thieves, identified as Satwant Singh alias Bittu, resident of Samana in Patiala and Karamjit Singh alias Lucky, resident of Patiala.
Modus operandi:
Mohali SSP Satinder Singh informed that the accused used to steal the cars after breaking open the rear windowpane with the help of a scale and starting the engine with a special Engine Control Module.
During the interrogation of the arrested accused, it came to light that they had stolen nearly 100 cars from different parts of the country. After stealing the cars, they used to sell them in Maharashtra and Pune after tampering their parts and documents.
Inspector Sukhbir Singh said, “We have booked 13 more members of this gang and are hoping to recover 50-60 more stolen cars from their possession. The absconding accused will be nabbed soon. The investigation is on.”
