EC issues notice to AAP for code of conduct violation, seeks reply within 24 hours

Chandigarh, February 12, 2022: The Election Commission has issued notice to AAP in Punjab for violating the Model Code of Conduct in one of the videos uploaded by the party on its social media platforms as part of election campaign.
In the video, the party has reportedly urged voters not to vote for the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
In the notice addressed to AAP Punjab President Bhagwant Maan, the Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab stated that the script on this video is not the same which was approved by State level MCMC which is a sheer violation of the Model Code of Conduct and MCMC guidelines.
"It has come to the notice of this office to the notice of this office that a video (copy enclosed) containing appeal by Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister, Delhi to the 10 Kejriwal, Chief Minister. Delhi to the Shiromani Akali Dal voters not to give their votes to Shiromani Akali Dal due to reasons mentioned in the Dal due to reasons mentioned in the video itself, has been uploaded/telecasted on various social media platforms. It has been informed that the script on this video is not the same which was approved by State level MCMC. Some content was not approved by the State level MCMC committee which is the sheer violation of the Model Code of Conduct and MCMC guidelines," read the notice
The commission has also asked directed to immediately stop the broadcasting /telecasting of this unapproved video on all social media and T.V. channels and to submit the reply of this notice within 24 hours to the undersigned.
