In Ferozepur, 17,000 ltr ‘lahan’ recovered and destroyed to avoid its misuse
Ferozepur, February 8, 2023: During the special search operation carried by the police in the presence of excise officials, 17,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered and destroyed on the spot, to avoid its misuse.
Divulging with details, Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP said, every possible effort is being made to curb the menace of drugs and illegal extracting of liquor in the district, as per the directions of the DGP Punjab. The teams of the Police department and Excise officials work in close coordination to effectively nail excise related crimes.
A team of gazetted officers Gurmit Singh SP(PBI), Fateh Singh Brar DSPL(D), Jgir Singh, DSP(PBI) Special Crime, Incharge CIA along with staff, a patrolling was carried out in the border area villages along with Sutlej River where the illegal brewing of ‘lahan’ is carried out when a recovery of 17,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ long with 8 plastic tarpaulins used for storage, were recovered in the presence of excise official, Inderpal Singh, Inspector.
As per information, no arrest could be made as none was available at the place of recovery point. However, a case has been registered under the Excise Act and further investigations are on.
However, the department has reaffirmed that the drive to curb banned liquor will be continued in the future, and strict action would be initiated against any person found to be indulging in illicit liquor trading, the spokesperson added.
