Governor visits border village Govt School Gatti Rajo Ke, encourages youth to stay away from drugs and adopt self-employment

Ferozepur , June 8, 2023: It was Punjab Governor’s Banwari Lal Purohit's third visit to the border district with a view to strengthen border security and tackle the challenges posed by infiltration and drug smuggling . This time, he paid a special visit to Government Senior Secondary School, Gatti Rajo Ke near the Indo-Pak international zero-line.
Dr.Satinder Singh, Principal welcomed the Governor who is the first to visit this border village school.
The purpose of the visit is to assess the existing security arrangements, understand the emerging threat scenario and boost the morale of the people living in the border villages.
On this occasion, he was accompanied by Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjuan and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav was also specially present and local MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar, MLA Ranjish Dahiya.
Addressing the residents of the border villages at government school, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit said that the people living on the border are hardworking and they are important in maintaining the security of the country. He asked the people to be alert to the activities of the neighbouring country, cooperate with the security forces and immediately report any suspicious activity in their vicinity.
He also visited the exhibitions organized by the Self Help Group and Horticulture Department and appreciated their initiative. He urged the youth to stay away from drugs, study and focus on skill development for self-employment.
Farmers and panchayats of the border area submitted a memorandum to the Governor regarding the problems of the people of the border area, the difficulties in farming beyond the barbed wire and various demands. PGI Sangharsh Committee also presented a demand letter for early start of PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozepur for providing best and modern health facilities to the people of the area who had to rush too far off places in the event of any emergency.
Governor also had extensive discussions with security personnel, local officials and representatives of various communities to get valuable information on the current security situation. Meanwhile, his main focus was to understand the use of drone technology by anti-social elements for cross-border infiltration and drug smuggling.
Expressing serious concern over the emerging threat incidents, the Governor reiterated Punjab's commitment to ensure the security of the border areas. He stressed the need for proactive measures to deal with the nefarious activities of the neighbouring country and to maintain the peace and integrity of the region. He urged people to come forward with any information that could help in curbing illegal activities.
On this occasion, Commissioner Ferozepur Division Daljit Mangat , Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur, Rajesh Dhiman , DIG Ferozepur Range, Ranjit Singh Dhillon , SSP. Bhupinder Singh, Chairman District Planning Committee Chand Singh Gill , Additional Deputy Commissioner Development Arun Kumar Sharma, SDM Ferozepur Ranjit Singh, SDM Zira Gagandeep Singh, officers of various departments and sarpanch and patriarchs of border villages were present.
