DC Randhawa Asks District Task Force on Child Labour and Begging to be vigilant on violations
Directs to launch Awareness Campaign too
Nawanshahar, June 8, 2023:
With a view to check menace of Child labour and begging, Deputy Commissioner, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa asked the members/stakeholders of District Task force on Child Labour and Begging to be vigilant on the violations and take strict action against the offenders.
Chairing a meeting of the district task force, DC Randhawa said that an awareness campaign would also be launched before starting enforcement drive. Alerting all the government officials and residents of the district, he further said that we should not promote child labour and begging in our residences as wel as nearby working places. He said that as per the law, anyone less than 18 can't be allowed or forced to work as a labourer.
Moreover under section 77 and 78 of the Juvenile Justice Act, if any drug is given to a child or a minor used to supply the drug, the person who does so shall be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years and a fine which may extend to one lakh rupees. Making the child helplines public, he said that any information related to child labour or begging can be poured in on Child Helpline number 1098 and District Child Protection Office on 01823-222322.
The District Child Protection Officer, Mrs. Kanchan Arora while briefing the DC about the action plan chalked out to create awareness , said that by roping in the Child protection committees and NGOs, a mass awareness drive would be launched before starting action.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Executive Officers of the Municipal Councils to be alert about the Child labour and begging in their respective areas and take action if someone violates the act. He directed the District Child Protection Officer to make the public aware through social media as well as other means to avoid child labour and begging. 1098 and District Child Protection Office on 01823-222322.
