Canada: After Punjab, extortion threats to businessmen in BC, Police issue Alerts

Abbotsford (Canada), December 6, 2023: After Punjab, the activity of a Extortion gangs threatening businessmen and demanding ransom has been noticed in BC province of Canada.
As per information, a gang demanding ransom from businessmen has reportedly turned active in Surrey and Abbotsford followed by some firing incidents. Reportedly, businessmen in the city of Abbotsford have received letters threatening them to pay ransoms to avoid future violence.
Although no businessmen were directly contacted by the gangsters, the letters reached many businessmen.
Abbotsford Police confirmed that the businessmen received the ransom letters and expressed concern about the fact that the letters were written collectively. The police have asked the businessmen not to contact the suspect in any way and not to pay ransom to anyone.
The police have also asked that the businessmen who have received the letters should contact the police. For this, the police have also released a phone number.
In thus context, firing on the Surrey residence of Film Producer/actor/singer last month is worth mentioning.
Last week, gunshots were fired at the residence of famous Punjab singer, actor Gippy Grewal in Canada. The incident took place outside Gippy's bunglow in the White Rock area of Vancouver.
Extortion ring being linked to India
It is to be noted that industrialists are being targeted by gangsters in Punjab too. Last month, Ludhiana-based businessman Sambhav Jain was shot after he was kidnapped for ransom near his factory. These gangs are usually associated with Lawrence Bishnoi or Goldie Brar.
On December 5, Red FM Vancouver in its post wrote that there are unconfirmed reports the extortion ring has links in India.
"White Rock residence, the target of a drive-by shooting last night, belongs to a Surrey restaurant owner. According to sources, the shooting was related to the extortion ring targeting many South Asian businesses in the Lower Mainland last few weeks. There are unconfirmed reports the extortion ring has links in India," Red FM Vancouver posted on X.
