Amritsar, May 23, 2024: In remembrance of hundreds of Sikh freedom fighters and pilgrims who attained martyrdom in the first week of June 84, the Dal Khalsa will undertake a Holocaust Remembrance Parade on June 5 in Amritsar.
Addressing the press conference at the party office, senior leader Kanwar Pal Singh said 40 years have passed since the Indian establishment attacked Darbar Sahib and bombed Akal Takhat bringing the edifice to rubble.
Terming it an unpardonable sin committed by the then government of India, he said the attack alienated the Sikhs from the Indian mainstream. He said since then Sikhs have been struggling to establish their own independent country making supreme sacrifices, facing long detentions and sufferings.
"Much water has flown down the rivers of Punjab since 1984. There has been a change in political leadership both at the center and the state. This has not healed our wounds of June 1984,” said the Dal Khalsa leader.
"Who-so-ever becomes the face ( Prime Minister) of India after June 4 LS election results, neither the Sikh position will change for better nor Punjab problem will be addressed," he added.
Taking a dig at this electoral charade of democracy, the Dal Khalsa said the Punjab problem was still a problem after 40 years. Dal Khalsa has resolved to boycott the LS polls under the present dispensation as it believes that right to self-determination can’t be substitute of elections under the present system.
Announcing the details of the plans to observe the Ghalughara week, he said the pain of the deadly attack in June 1984 was fresh and the wounds still simmer. He urged the SGPC to do research work to ascertain the exact number of people who died during the attack.
The meeting denounced the Modi government for carrying out extrajudicial operations on foreign soils silencing the Sikh voices who are vocally protagonists of the Khalistan cause.
Dal Khalsa strongly slammed the Punjab govt for its witch-hunting policies. Registering false case against media baron Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard is nothing but Bhagwant Mann’s cowardly act failing to face its incompetence and criticism by Ajit publication. The timing of the FIR explains how worried is CM Bhagwant.
Dal Khalsa leaders expressed condolences on the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran along with his foreign minister. As a people of Punjab, we express our heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran in this time of grief.
