Chandigarh, May 26, 2024: SAD leader Gurjeet Singh Talwandi appointed as National Secretary, All India Jat Mahasabha.All India Jat Mahasabha, founded by Sir Chhotu Ram in 1907 is the oldest and largest representative body of the Jat community which is the majority community in the Northern and central belt of the country.
Gurjeet Singh Talwandi is the grandson of Akali veteran and former president SGPC Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi currently serving SAD as General Secretary.
"Gurjeet Singh Talwandi had emerged as a key figure setting the narrative for the Shiromani Akali Dal, when he had filed a PIL against AAP Government for dissolution of 12,756 panchayats of Punjab and forced Government to withdraw its notification leading to its major embarrassment and suspension of two senior IAS officers. This U-turn by the AAP government provided the Shiromani Akali Dal with much-needed momentum in its campaign against the ruling AAP, while Talwandi strengthened his position," read the press statement.
In an event held by the organization at Chandigarh, Gurjeet Singh Talwandi while talking to the press said, “The need of the hour is to strengthen and unite the Jat community and prepare the gen next leadership”.
He said, “National Parties have not only been uprooting the Jat community economically but also ignoring Jat leadership for the top posts even in traditional Jat majority states”.
He said, “Strengthening of traditional Regional parties having roots in agrarian culture is the answer”.
Harpal Singh Haripura Sr. Vice President of the association while talking to the press said “We are committed to strengthening the Jat community and as a policy have started inducting young leadership who share our passion and zeal to safeguard the community at the national level”.
It is important to mention that the current National President of the association is Capt. Amrinder former Chief Minister and his daughter Jai Inder is women wing chief of Punjab Unit. Recently at another event Fateh Jung Bajwa’s son Kanwar Partap Bajwa, was appointed Youth President of Punjab unit.
In a joint statement by Jammu state President and former Mayor Jammu Chaudhary Mayur Singh and Ajaib Boparai General Secretary (Incharge) said that we will be making a new body in Punjab and will ensure representation from every district in the state.
They said that organization has been historically promoting the community and safeguarding their interests at national level”.
