Breaking: Punjab to boycott BBMB meeting- Reports
Tensions Rise Amid Ongoing Water Dispute with Haryana

Chandigarh, May 3, 2025:Amid escalating tensions over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and water-sharing issues, the Punjab government is reportedly set to boycott the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) meeting scheduled for 5 PM today, according to sources.
The move comes just hours after Haryana held an all-party meeting demanding the implementation of BBMB’s April 23 decision to release Haryana’s share of water. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also accused the Punjab government of acting “unconstitutionally” by allegedly withholding the agreed water share.
While an official confirmation is awaited from the Punjab government, the reported decision to abstain from the key meeting could further strain inter-state relations and delay resolution efforts.
The BBMB, which regulates water and power distribution from the Bhakra and Beas rivers among partner states, plays a critical role in addressing disputes and ensuring equitable allocation.
