Ludhiana (Punjab), May 6, 2025: In a transformative step towards empowering residents within the Lal Lakir, Punjab’s Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora conferred proprietary rights to 990 households under the Mera Ghar Mere Naam scheme on Tuesday in Ludhiana.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora said this landmark initiative addresses long-standing property ownership issues, granting legal titles to residents of Lal Lakir.
Arora underscored the scheme’s profound impact, noting that it resolves decades-old challenges for Lal Lakir residents, restoring dignity and unlocking economic potential.
“This scheme not only provides legal recognition but also equips residents with the tools to use their properties for economic advancement, such as securing loans or planning for their families’ future,” Arora said.The initiative has been warmly welcomed by beneficiaries in Sunet and Barewal, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the security and opportunities afforded by legal ownership.
Adding, Arora said the main objective of implementing Mera Ghar Mere Naam scheme by the Punjab Government is to provide ownership rights to the people living in houses within the “Lal Lakir”. Under this scheme, people living within the Lal Lakir who have got the property rights today will be able to sell their property and take a loan on their houses.
Arora said today two areas of the city namely Sunet and Barewal have been covered. He said in the next phase Haibowal area will be covered in the coming days.
The process is in progress in this connection, he added. He added it was major demand of residents in these three areas of the city. Arora – the AAP candidate from Ludhiana (West) constituency said whenever he went to address poll meetings in these areas the issue of Lal Lakir was taken up by the residents.
Further, Arora said that the beneficiaries may get corrections, if any, in the property rights certificates distributed today at MCL D-Zone Office on all working days from 10 am to 5 pm in next 90 days.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh emphasized the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, to enhancing socio-economic security and resolving public grievances.
Dr. Singh said to ensure accuracy and transparency, the government conducted an advanced drone survey and thorough revenue verification in Sunet and Barewal villages. Covering approximately 60,000–70,000 yards in Sunet and 25,000–30,000 yards in Barewal, the drone survey precisely mapped properties within the Lal Lakir, while revenue officials verified land records to confirm rightful ownership.
Adding, he said this technology-driven approach has minimized errors, accelerated the process, and ensured efficient distribution of ownership documents.
Further, Dr. Singh said the property certificates have been handed over to 990 beneficiaries in Sunet and Barewal. Looking at the gathering, the minister said most among the beneficiaries seem to be elderly one. He said Arora did a commendable job in providing property rights to the beneficiaries hailing from Sunet and Barewal. Further lauding Arora, he said people of Ludhiana are lucky that they got such a dynamic and pushing leader.
Dr. Singh highlighted that legal ownership empowers residents to leverage their properties for economic opportunities, fostering financial independence and stability. The initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of equitable growth and administrative efficiency.
Among others, Mayor Ludhiana Principal Inderjeet Kaur, Senior deputy Mayor Rakesh Parashar, deputy mayor Prince Johar and Bathinda Mayor Padamjeet Singh Mehta were also present on the occasion.
