Chandigarh, May 9, 2025 — Following the launch of Operation Sindoor and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Tricity region — comprising Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali — has been placed on high alert.
Late Thursday night, Pakistan attempted air strikes on several cities in Punjab, prompting authorities to step up security measures across the region.
On Friday morning, air raid sirens were sounded in Chandigarh, indicating a potential drone threat from the Air Force Station. Residents were advised to stay indoors and away from balconies.
CTU Suspends Jammu-Katra Bus Service
The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has suspended its bus service to Jammu and Katra.
According to a CTU official, the service, which typically operates two buses daily (morning and evening), was halted after the evening bus dispatched on Thursday was recalled from Pathankot due to security concerns. No buses were sent on the route Friday morning.
DC Office to Remain Open Over Weekend
In light of the current situation, the Chandigarh UT Administration has announced that the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office will remain open on May 10 (Saturday), May 11 (Sunday), and May 12 (Monday).
All DC office and sub-division staff are required to report to duty, and their presence is mandatory.
Heightened Vigilance in Panchkula
Panchkula has also been placed on alert. The district administration has instructed hospitals to increase preparedness.Shops have been ordered to close after 6 PM, and the police have been directed to remain on high alert. A blackout will be enforced in Panchkula tonight.
Chandigarh Employees Ordered to Remain at Headquarters
The Chandigarh Administration’s Department of Personnel has issued an order instructing all government employees to remain at their respective headquarters or stations within Chandigarh until further notice.
All previously approved leave is hereby canceled unless reapproved by the concerned secretary — and only under exceptional circumstances.These directions have been issued with the approval of the competent authority and must be strictly followed.
