Departments must complete all short-term projects before monsoon: Haryana CM Saini

Chandigarh, May 12, 2025 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed all departments to expedite and complete ongoing short-term infrastructure projects before the onset of the monsoon season. Chairing a high-level meeting with senior officials, the Chief Minister emphasized that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
Special focus was laid on cleaning and desilting drains, minors, and riverbeds, including the Saraswati, Markanda, and Tangri rivers, to ensure unimpeded water flow and prevent urban flooding.Officials were also ordered to immediately remove water hyacinth and inspect all dams for necessary repairs.
The Chief Minister stressed that the execution of these projects must be treated with urgency and shared with local representatives and Deputy Commissioners for monitoring.
He also ordered a survey of all water channels (khaals) over 20 years old to plan their cleaning and repairs.In a move to protect the Yamuna River from pollution, CM Saini directed that no untreated or industrial waste should be allowed to flow into the river.
He mandated the setup of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in affected cities and advocated for reuse of treated water for irrigation.Further, he directed departments to strengthen all rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge structures before the rains to aid in water conservation.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Haryana State Drought Relief and Flood Control Board had approved 209 short-term projects worth ₹282 crore, of which 103 are currently under execution.
Drain cleaning across the state is targeted to be completed by June 30.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar, and senior officials from the Urban Local Bodies and Public Health Engineering departments.
