  New Delhi, May 14, 2025: Justice BR Gavai will take oath as new Chief Justice of India today. President Droupadi Murmu will administer him oath. He will be 52nd Chief Justice of India and second Dalit to become CJI.
  
  Before him Justice KG Balakrishnan had taken oath as CJI in 2007.
  
  Justice Gavai completed his BA LLB from Nagpur and practised at Nagpur before becoming Judge at Bombay High Court. He is son of a former Governor RS Gavai.
