Bengaluru, August 2, 2025 – In a landmark judgment, the Special Court for criminal cases against MPs and MLAs on Friday sentenced expelled JDS leader and former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna to rigorous life imprisonment in a rape case involving a domestic worker.
Revanna was convicted under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which prescribes life imprisonment for aggravated sexual assault. The court ordered imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life, the maximum sentence under the provision.
The conviction relates to the rape of a domestic worker at a farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district. The case was registered at the Holenarasipura Rural Police Station following a detailed investigation and statements from the survivor.
The verdict comes months after widespread outrage and political pressure over serious allegations of sexual assault involving Revanna, who is also the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
Revanna was expelled from the Janata Dal (Secular) following multiple allegations of sexual exploitation. This case marks a significant step in the ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding him.
