Chandigarh, August 5, 2025: In a major development for international flyers from Punjab, MP Malvinder Singh Kang, has made a special appeal to the central government to launch direct international flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, to key global destinations including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Europe.
MP Malvinder Singh Kang urged Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu (Ram M.N.K.) to take immediate action on this proposal. He emphasized the significant population of Punjabis settled in these regions and highlighted the urgent need for direct connectivity to cater to their travel needs.
Direct international flights from Mohali would not only reduce the passenger load on Delhi Airport but also position Chandigarh and surrounding areas as a prominent international aviation hub. This move is expected to greatly enhance Punjab’s economic growth and boost tourism in the region.
He has urged the central government to take prompt and decisive steps on this critical issue, which could transform air connectivity for Punjab and North India.
Kang underlined that this initiative is essential for the prosperity and development of the region. He added that it would serve the travel needs of millions of Punjabis living abroad while providing a convenient and direct international travel option to those in Punjab and neighboring states.
