Jalandhar (Punjab), August 2, 2025: In a heartwarming celebration of grit, passion, and family support, Jalandhar’s Tanvi Sharma and Radhika Sharma were today honoured for their outstanding achievements in badminton at both national and international levels. The sisters were felicitated by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal at a special function organized by the District Badminton Association.
The two rising stars received a cash award of ₹1 lakh each and trophies in recognition of their hard work and talent. Punjab and District Badminton Association Secretary Ritin Khanna was also present at the ceremony.
Tanvi Sharma, currently ranked world number one in the Under-19 Junior Badminton category, has become the first athlete from Punjab to claim this prestigious title.
Her elder sister, Radhika Sharma, has earned the number one spot in India in the mixed doubles category—marking a rare moment of double pride for the state and their family.
Dr. Aggarwal, who also chairs the District Badminton Association, praised the sisters not only for their dedication but also for becoming role models for countless young athletes across Punjab.
“Tanvi and Radhika are living examples of what talent, hard work, and strong family support can achieve. They’ve made Jalandhar, Punjab, and India proud,” he said.
A special mention was made of their mother and coach, Meena Sharma, whose dedication and parenting were credited as instrumental in the sisters’ success.
“Behind these champions is a mother who believed, guided, and stood by them every step of the way. Her role in shaping their journey cannot be overstated,” said Dr. Aggarwal.
He further assured the family that the district administration stands firmly behind young talents like them and highlighted the state government's ongoing commitment to promoting sports and nurturing budding players under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership.
The ceremony ended on a hopeful note, with applause echoing not just for medals and rankings, but for a story of perseverance, parenting, and the power of dreams.
