Rampura Phul, August 3, 2025: In a powerful and emotional tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, his niece Bibi Gurjit Kaur inaugurated the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Hall at the Public Library in Rampura Phul on Sunday. The event, which drew students, scholars, and local residents, aimed to honor the revolutionary’s legacy while urging the younger generation to rediscover the values he stood for.
Speaking at the inauguration, Bibi Gurjit Kaur, who spent her childhood with family members like Chachi Harnam Kaur and Hukum Kaur, recalled her early exposure to stories and values of the freedom struggle. “I’ve read many of Bhagat Singh’s writings, but I can’t claim to know more than Chaman Lal ji. Yet I know this—very few truly understand what Bhagat Singh actually stood for.”
She added, “He didn’t die for personal glory or for his family—he gave his life at 24 for the dream of an India where everyone lives with dignity. But today, the reality is different. The rich are getting richer, the poor poorer, and a handful of people are controlling the economy. This is not the India Bhagat Singh had imagined.”
Calling for youth to reclaim that vision, she said, “He dreamt of an India where each person would live a heavenly life. We must revisit his thoughts—libraries like these will help us do that. History shows that wherever there is oppression and corruption, there will be resistance.”

The memorial hall—set up on the second floor of the library—houses a rich collection of books donated by renowned historian and retired JNU professor Chaman Lal, who has authored more than 50 works on history, literature, and revolution. The project is being seen as a crucial step in preserving the ideological heritage of Bhagat Singh for posterity.
The event concluded with an appeal to students and citizens to use the Memorial Hall not just as a reading space but as a place to reconnect with the ideals of justice, equality, and intellectual courage that Bhagat Singh embodied.
