Chandigarh, August 5, 2025 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said that discussions with Punjab over water sharing have taken a constructive and forward-moving direction, with both states engaging in a cordial and cooperative atmosphere.
Speaking to media persons after attending a high-level meeting chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi, CM Saini emphasized that the ongoing dialogue has shown encouraging signs. "A significant step forward was made in the talks today. The discussions were more constructive than ever before," he said.
He recalled that a similar meeting held on July 9 had already indicated a positive shift in the tone of inter-state deliberations. “This time, we have moved a step further. The talks were held in an even more positive and solution-oriented environment,” he noted.
The Chief Minister assured that Haryana will present its case strongly and constructively before the Supreme Court on August 13, expressing confidence in achieving a fair and favourable resolution.
In response to a question, Saini clarified that the Indus Waters Treaty is a separate subject, and under that context, Rajasthan will also be entitled to its rightful share of water.
Senior officials including Union Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar, and Additional Chief Secretary (Irrigation and Water Resources) Anurag Agarwal, were also present in the meeting along with representatives from both states.
