Chandigarh, August 6, 2025 – Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains today appeared before the Akal Takht Sahib and admitted his mistake. Following his appearance, the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gharjaj, officially declared Bains a Tankhaiya (religious offender) and announced a series of religious punishments.
As part of his religious penance, Harjot Bains has been directed to walk from the shrine of the Ninth Sikh Guru to Guru ke Mahal today itself. Additionally, he will walk 100 meters each at Gurdwara Kotha Sahib and Gurdwara Patshahi Nauvin, where he must also manage necessary services.
The Jathedar has also instructed Bains to ensure the repair and maintenance of the roads leading to these religious places. Furthermore, he has been ordered to visit Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib and serve for two days at the Jorh Ghar in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
As part of his religious service, he must also offer a deg (holy offering) worth ₹1100.
These directives come as part of religious accountability within the Sikh community, showcasing the continued authority and relevance of Akal Takht Sahib in spiritual and moral matters involving Sikh public figures.
