CBSE’s tough love for Class 10, 12 students: Miss Classes, Miss Board Exams! Know The New Rules
Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, August 6, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strict directive for the 2025-26 academic session, making 75% attendance mandatory for students of Class 10 and 12 to be eligible for board examinations.
This major move aims to curb the increasing trend of ‘dummy students’ and promote academic discipline in schools.
CBSE highlighted that many students and schools were disregarding attendance norms. The board has now made it clear—no student with less than 75% attendance will be allowed to sit in the board exams unless exempted under exceptional circumstances.
Exemption Conditions:
- Serious illness (self or family member)
- Death in the family
- Participation in national/international sports
Note: Supporting documents must be submitted in time for any exemption to be considered.
- Schools must inform students and parents about the rule at the session’s start and issue formal warnings in case of low attendance.
- Parents must submit medical or other required certificates promptly to the school.
CBSE may conduct surprise inspections and warned of cancellation of affiliation if manipulation in attendance records is found. Schools must maintain daily updated attendance records.
Students and parents are advised to take this directive seriously to avoid being barred from crucial board examinations.
