Himachal: Cloudburst in Manikaran valley causes widespread destruction

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh, August 17, 2025: A cloudburst struck the Manikaran Valley in Kullu district on Sunday, triggering heavy rains and flash floods that caused widespread destruction in the Rashol and Chhalal panchayat areas.
According to reports, the sudden downpour and debris flow washed away three water mills (gharats), a pedestrian bridge, and three houses. Local residents said that people were inside their homes at the time of the incident, but fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
The force of the water was so intense that fields, orchards, and pathways were buried under debris and mud, causing significant damage to agricultural land and infrastructure.
Villagers have urged the administration to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, revenue department teams have reached the spot to assess the losses.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the Manikaran Valley, with residents expressing concern over the possibility of more heavy rains in the coming days.
