Chandigarh, August 17, 2025 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday announced a new reward policy for the state police, aimed at encouraging stronger action in NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.
Under the policy, police officers carrying out major drug seizures will be rewarded. For instance, an Investigating Officer recovering more than 1 kg of heroin will receive a cash reward of ₹1.2 lakh.
In a major reform, head constables will now also be allowed to investigate NDPS cases, a responsibility earlier reserved for higher ranks.
The Chief Minister further announced that around 1,600 promotions in Punjab Police will be carried out soon, which will also create vacancies for fresh recruitment.
