Chandigarh, August 17, 2025: The Chandigarh Administration has opened the flood gates of Sukhna Lake after continuous heavy rainfall in the hills pushed the water level to 1162.5 feet, close to the danger mark of 1164 feet.
Officials confirmed that six inches of the flood gates have already been opened to release excess water, with further openings planned gradually to prevent sudden surges downstream.
The administration has sounded an alert in nearby areas, including Baltana and Mubarakpur Causeway, warning residents about the possible rise in water flow. Special teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure safety.
This is the fourth time this season that the flood gates of Sukhna Lake have been opened due to rising water levels. Authorities emphasized that precautionary alerts were issued in advance to minimize risk and avoid any potential loss of life or property.
