New Delhi, August 21, 2025: The MHA on Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Satish Golcha as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi—just a day after the attack on the Chief Minister.
Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, was serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, before his elevation. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order, he will assume charge immediately and continue until further notice.
He succeeds IPS officer SBK Singh, who was holding additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner following the retirement of Sanjay Arora on July 31. Singh will now continue as Director General of Home Guards.
Golcha has had a long and varied career across crucial assignments. He served as DG of Prisons, overseeing Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini jails during a turbulent phase marked by gang rivalries and violence. Earlier, he was the DGP of Arunachal Pradesh (2022–2023).
Within the Delhi Police, Golcha has held multiple senior positions including Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner (Law & Order and Intelligence). Notably, he played a key role as Special CP (Law and Order) during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, helping restore normalcy amidst intense violence.
Known for his calm yet firm handling of law-and-order situations, Golcha now takes charge of Delhi Police at a time of heightened security challenges and political tensions in the national capital.
