MP Manish Tewari seeks POC status, old terminal revival for Chandigarh Airport

Chandigarh, August 29, 2025: A meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee of Chandigarh International Airport was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, and co-chairmanship of Manvinder Singh Kang, MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The meeting was attended by CEO Ajay Verma, Committee members H.S. Lucky, Chandermukhi Sharma, Mr. Ravinder Pal Pali, Mr. Pawan Dewan, Mr. Gurmail Singh Pahalwan, Mr. Bhuvnish Kumar (CASO), Mr. Manjit Ghumman, Mr. Karan Gilhotra, DC Chandigarh Mr. Nishant Yadav, SSP Chandigarh Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, and SP Mr. Ramandeep Singh.
The committee resolved to recommend to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airport Authority of India that Chandigarh International Airport be designated as a Point of Call (POC). Mr. Tewari further emphasized the urgent need to operationalize the old terminal of the airport, which would improve accessibility for residents of Chandigarh and Panchkula.
He noted that this demand had also been raised by the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh at the Civil Aviation Ministry’s conference in May/June 2025.Other key issues discussed included cleaning up areas in and around the airport, especially measures to tackle the bird menace.
Tewari and Mr. Kang also directed that a joint meeting of DCs, SSPs, and Municipal Commissioners of both Chandigarh and Mohali be convened to address flight safety concerns arising from unattended garbage and encroachments around the airport’s perimeter.
It was further suggested that representatives of the Indian Air Force and Chandigarh International Airport Limited also be included in this meeting.
