Around 1,700 gazetted officers to supervise rescue and relief in flood-hit villages: CM Bhagwant Mann
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, September 4, 2025:
To tighten on-ground coordination in marooned areas, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann directed that a gazetted officer be deployed in every flood-affected village to ensure direct communication with residents and expedite grievance redressal.
The move aims to create a single, accountable point of contact in each village so affected families can report all categories of issues and receive prompt, appropriate solutions during ongoing relief and rehabilitation.
As of Thursday, 1,698 villages across all 23 districts stand impacted, with more than 3.80 lakh people affected statewide, underscoring the need for dedicated oversight at the village level.
The Chief Minister said massive relief and rescue operations are in motion to prevent hardship for residents, with special thrust on deliveries to the worst-hit belts and 24x7 support in active camps.
A special girdawari has been ordered to fairly assess losses so that compensation reaches eligible families without delay, with instructions issued for transparent, timely enumeration.
According to the state bulletin, multi-agency deployments include NDRF, SDRF, Army, Air Force, Navy, and BSF support, alongside 123 boats and helicopter sorties aiding evacuation and supply drops.
Authorities have appealed for contributions to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to sustain relief, medical aid, rations, and livestock support as waters recede and full damage assessments are completed.
