Chandigarh, November 11, 2025: Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, today released the book Trauma, Stigma, and Support: Mapping Women’s Mental Health in Contemporary India at Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh.
Authored by Prof. Namita Gupta, Professor at the Centre for Human Rights and Duties and Dean of Student Welfare (Women) at Panjab University, the book addresses women’s mental health as a critical yet under-explored issue, shaped by social norms, gendered expectations, and systemic inequities. Structured into five thematic sections, it includes scholarly insights on trauma, workplace stress, adolescent well-being, and systemic advocacy. This marks Prof. Gupta’s seventh book.
Lauding the initiative, the Governor said, “Women’s mental health is central to individual well-being, family stability, and community progress. Recognizing and addressing it is crucial for building an equitable and compassionate society. Efforts like this provide a strong knowledge base to guide reforms and build sensitive support systems. By documenting lived experiences and systemic barriers, this book encourages society to replace stigma with empathy and action.”
Prof. Namita Gupta remarked, “This book is a collective effort to amplify women’s voices and experiences. By linking mental health to dignity, justice, and rights, we hope it encourages more sensitive policies and community-based action.”
