New Delhi, September 15, 2025: The tragic death of Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh in Sunday’s BMW accident near Dhaula Kuan has reignited debate over road safety and regulation of luxury vehicles.
Singh’s cousin, Shailendra Sharma, voiced anger and concern, calling such high-powered cars “extremely risky.”
“These vehicles are extremely risky. Most accidents involving such cars are fatal, as we’ve often seen in the media. The government has strict pollution norms, and vehicles older than ten years shouldn’t be allowed. Another thing the government should consider is not letting such high-powered cars fall into people’s hands,” Sharma said.
The family has also questioned why Singh, grievously injured in the accident, was taken nearly 20 km away to Newlife Hospital in GTB Nagar instead of a nearby trauma centre. They believe the delay may have cost him his life.
The BMW driver, Gaganpreet Kaur (38), of Gurugram, has been arrested. Delhi Police have filed an FIR under sections of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder, with investigations underway into both the crash and the hospital transfer.
