VWS holds Ferozepur District Chess Championship 2025
Ferozepur, September 29, 2025: The Ferozepur District Chess Championship 2025 was successfully organized at Vivekananda World School (VWS) aiming to spark a deeper interest in chess among young students and provide them a platform to showcase their skills at the state and national levels.
Sharing details, School Director Dr. S. N. Rudra said the school’s serene environment and excellent arrangements helped participants maintain focus and display exemplary sportsmanship. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of the District Chess Association, led by Advocate Vivek Jain.
The inaugural ceremony began with a traditional lamp-lighting, graced by Mandeep Kumar, President of the Press Club Ferozepur, as the chief guest. The event was smoothly managed by Punjab State Chess Association President Ankush Kathuria, Treasurer Kumar Bansal, Ria, and arbiters Dinesh Gera and Shilpa Gera.
The closing ceremony featured Vijay Sharma, President of Satluj Press Club, as chief guest, along with special guests Rajeshwar Shergill, Incharge Chairman of the Permanent Lok Adalat, and senior advocate Gurjesh Bajaj, who encouraged the players. Around 100 talented players participated, demonstrating remarkable understanding and passion for the game. Winners were honored with trophies and medals after an exciting day of matches.
The winders in the differente categories were - Under-11 Open: 1st Thrshiv, 2nd Jaskeerat Singh, 3rd Jakh Jain, Under-11 Girls: 1st Akeedat Kaur, 2nd Prabhleen Kaur, 3rd Lakshmi, Under-15 Open: 1st Siddharth Mangal, 2nd Abhishek Bansal, 3rd Chetan Preet Singh Moti, Under-15 Girls: 1st Anhadnoor Kaur, 2nd Gurnoor Kaur, 3rd Harbir Kaur, Open Men: 1st Ayush Sharma, 2nd Abhishek Bhargav, 3rd Vaibhav Kumar, and Open Women: 1st Rupneet Kaur, 2nd Gurkomal Kaur, 3rd Angel.
Dr. Rudra extended special thanks to the school team including Shipra Arora (VP Academics), Darshan Singh Sidhu (Sports Coordinator), Gurpreet Singh, Rustampreet Singh, Palwinder Singh, Gaurav, Kanwardeep Singh, Muskan, Vidhi Bansal, and Ritu for their dedicated efforts. He emphasized that such tournaments foster creative thinking, patience, and mental strength in children, preparing them to face future challenges with confidence.
