New Delhi, September 30, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday assured that the Modi government is standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Punjab in the aftermath of severe floods during the monsoon season.
Shah made the remarks after meeting Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who briefed him on the extensive damages caused across the state.
The Home Minister highlighted that the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) already has ₹12,589.59 crore available, which can be utilized for immediate relief and restoration work as per Government of India norms.
Regarding the ₹1,600 crore announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said ₹805 crore has already been released to the state and intended beneficiaries, with the remaining assistance to follow once Punjab submits a detailed memorandum.
The Home Minister noted that an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) had conducted on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected areas from September 3 to 6, even before the state submitted its memorandum, ensuring swift central coordination for relief and reconstruction.
