Ferozepur (Punjab), October 1, 2025: The village of Lakho Ke Behram in Ferozepur district is in the grip of a drug overdose crisis, with three people losing their lives today after consuming illicit substances. The spate of deaths has sparked outrage, with villagers blocking the highway in protest against the administration’s failure to act.
Local reports reveal that four people have died in the last two days, with addicts injecting narcotic tablets dissolved in water. Over the years, the village has recorded nearly 85 drug-related deaths, transforming its identity from a “village of soldiers” to one plagued by addiction.
The recent floods in Ferozepur are believed to have worsened the situation, as large quantities of drugs entered the market undetected, fueling the crisis. Despite a police station being located along the busy Ferozepur-Fazilka road, residents allege authorities have failed to crack down on the flourishing drug trade.
With anger mounting, authorities are under growing pressure to impose stricter measures, intensify crackdowns on traffickers, and prevent further tragedies in the region.
