Punjab Police on high alert ahead of Diwali; DGP orders tight security across state

Chandigarh/Tarn Taran, October 15, 2025: In view of the upcoming Diwali festival, the Punjab Police has been put on high alert across the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has instructed all district police chiefs to intensify security measures and ensure maximum deployment of personnel.
The directives were issued during a high-level review meeting held in Tarn Taran and Batala, attended by ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force Pramod Ban and ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad. The meeting primarily focused on tackling threats linked to Pakistan-sponsored narco-terrorism and organised crime networks.

- Pakistan’s Attempts to Destabilise Punjab:
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Pakistan continues its attempts to spread terrorism and unrest in Punjab through drug smuggling. However, he asserted that the Punjab Police has been successfully foiling these conspiracies.
- Use of Drones for Smuggling:
The DGP revealed that Pakistan has been using drones to transport drugs and weapons into Indian territory. He said the anti-drone systems deployed by the Punjab government are being effectively utilised to neutralise this aerial threat.
- Terror Modules Busted:
Since September 2024, the Punjab Police has dismantled 26 terror modules and arrested 90 suspects, recovering a significant cache of arms, explosives, hand grenades, and RDX.
- Action Against Foreign Handlers:
In its campaign against organised crime, the Punjab Police has identified 203 foreign handlers. The process of issuing Red Corner and Blue Corner Notices against them has begun in coordination with central agencies.
- Public Cooperation Through ‘Safe Punjab’ Portal:
Highlighting the success of the ‘Safe Punjab’ WhatsApp chatbot (9779100200), DGP Yadav said that 33% of actionable information received through the platform led to the registration of 7,285 FIRs. He urged citizens to continue sharing confidential information about drug traffickers and criminals without fear.
Senior officers including Commissioner of Police Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, DIG Ferozepur Range Nilambari Jagdale, and DIG Border Range Nanak Singh were also present during the review meeting.
